So, on Saturday 12/29/2018 we (my heros and I, as DM,) went back to… Calzone Golem of Death. This mini adventure for the start of my version of Waterdeep.
I have however gotten the Beadle and Grimes… their Platinum Edition of D&D’s WATERDEEP DRAGON HEIST. which is brilliant and fun to use. For this mini adventure and used the DM screen, the new dice bag and one of the monsters from the huge box of them: the Troll. I also used the first module. They broke up the whole D&D Waterdeep: Dragon Heist book into nine smaller modules. I added the Calzone Golem of Death to our adventure for fun and to get all their hero’s together and do something. It was fun.
When last we were together the hero’s had blown the Calzone Golem into tiny bits of cheese and sauce, with an Eldritch Blast spell. Kicked over and moved the crystall glass portal keys (there are four of them) to stop a Pit Fiend from pass into their realm. All they saw of the Pit Fiend was its hands reaching into the Dinning room. When the Portal keys were moved the hands new it wasn’t going to be able to walk into their (the Hero’s realm) it reached up and grab the Imp as it was flying around screaming and pulled it down into the other realm as the void was closing.
The human male that was in the bedroom and pretty beat up by the Imp was healed by one of our heros. It turns out that he’s the Cook at the Restaurant. He was healed to a point that he could came out and thanked everyone for helping him and for stopping all the bad guys from hurt him, his home and business. He start making the Lasagna for them to give to Durnan. He steps into the Kitchen and one of our heros is there looking into the fire pit. She turn to the cook and says that there’s soming in the fire that keeps moving about. The Cook tells her yes, its our pet Fire Elemental Cat.
His wife, a Wizard, final shows up back home after going out for more supplies. She gave the hero’s a Cloak of Elvenkin — While you wear this cloak with its hood up, Wisdom (Perception) checks made to see you have disadvantage. and you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide, as the cloak’s color shifts to camouflage you. Pulling the hood up or down requires an action.
She also gave the group a Ring of Regeneration — While wearing this ring, you regain 1d6 Hit Points every 10 minutes, provided that you have at least 1 hit point. If you lose a body part, the ring causes the missing part to regrow and return to full functionality after 1d6 + 1 days if you have at least 1 hit point the whole time.
They all sit down and eat Lasagna drink wine… well all but the Warforged.
They talked about what happen, what was coming through the portal and of the Imp who hurt the Cook. She told them to take the portal keys and sell them to someone in Waterdeep. She was also sorry that she had no money to give them… though she gifted them with brilliant items of magic, (The hero’s gave the Wizard & the Cook money to help them amd even helped clean up the place,)and then they headed back to the Yawning Portal with Durnan’s Lasagna.
The heros got to the bottom of pit and yelled up to anyone that will listen that they’re back with the Lasagna. Durnan was most surprise to see them back. They were the first group to show back with the Lasagna for about five years. He told them how the whole Inn makes bets on if they will make it back to the Pit and if they will bring the Lasagna. He always put our group of hero’s in the pot for 20 gold pieces. They made 400 gold for getting the Lasagna and making it back to the Pit.
They all get up to the Inn and as the heros are relaxing in the taproom of the Yawning Portal, a fistfight breaks out nearby.
The heros are standing around the bar near Durnan which is lit by brightly burning candles and littered with plates cleared of food and half-drained tankards. The sounds of gamblers yelling and drunken adventurers singing bawdy songs nearly drown out the off-key strumming of a young bard three tables over.
Then all the noise is eclipsed by a shout: “Ya pig! Like killin’ me mates, does ya?” Then a seven-foot-tall half-orc is hit by a wild, swinging punch from a male human whose shaved head is covered with eye-shaped tattoos. Four other humans stand behind him, ready to jump into the fray. The human combatants are five members of the Xanathar Guild (CE human bandits). The one with the eye-shaped tattoos on his bald pate is their leader, Krentz.
The pig that Krentz is yelling at is a half-orc just sitting in the Inn minding her own business. This half-orc will fight for her pride. She loves a good rowdy bar fight.
The fight doesn’t go long. One of our heros shoot an arrow at one of the four men and then the Half-orc female knocks Krentz out cold. Durnan, the proprietor of the Yawning Portal, points toward the door. “Out!” he snarls, and the four other guys flee as they carry out Krentz’s unconscious form.
The Half-orc female thanks the Heros for helping her and they talk… trying to find out her name and find out that she was never giving a name. She tells them that she is happy to know them and that she seeks the wind, peace and a good bed to sleep in. The group of heros give her the name Happy Windseeker. She likes the name and orders drinks for all who want one.
Shouts of alarm suddenly ring out as a hulking creature climbs up out of the shaft in the middle of the taproom — a monster with warty green skin, a tangled nest of wiry black hair, a long, carrot-shaped nose, and bloodshot eyes. As it bares its yellow teeth and howls, you can see that a half-dozen bat-like creatures are attached to its body, with three more circling above it like flies. Everyone in the tavern reacts in fear except for the barkeep, Durnan, who shouts, “Troll!”
Once in the taproom, the troll rises to its full height of 9 feet. The bat like creatures keep flying above the troll pose a threat. The remaining ones are bloated, having drained copious amounts of the troll’s blood, and fly back down the shaft to digest their meal. As the troll regenerates, the effects of its blood loss become less apparent.
Most tavern patrons and staffers flee or take cover at the sight of the troll. Durnan draws his greatsword, springs over the bar, and confronts the monster himself. As he attacks, he calls on the our heros to focus on slaying the bat like thingies and then go after the troll. Happy scream her battle cry and leaps on top of a table nearby and leaps to one closer to the troll and then leaps through the air to hit the troll with her huge Warhammer. Durnan misses his hit on the troll, but he does hit a bat like thingies with a hit that sends it across the Inn to the far side of the tap room. Our Heros are able to hit the beast hard even one member does a brilliant frost spell and then another member of our brave heros… the one who uses the Eldritch Blast spell gets two great hit and the last Eldritch Blast spell tears the troll apart and send most of it down into the Pit. The Trolls head falls to the floor of the Inn and rolls around. The Heros now look forward to a long brilliant rest.
See you where dice rule the realm!
