Just food for thought… here’s an analogy for you…
You could hire a comedian for an evening of great entertainment, or just go and buy a book of jokes for $15 to $20 and read it out loud to your guests. Yes, it’s cheaper and you get jokes, but not the entertainment you would have had from the comedian.
So, the brilliant answer to the question… “couldn’t I just throw a great murder mystery party for only $40 or $100 bucks on an internet kit in a
downloaded pdf or box… is Maybe!”
Most of those fly-by-night internet mystery game companies don’t have any first-hand experience producing top quality live interactive mystery events with the party guests on hand. It’s basically a couple of people who just whip together some zany character names, cartoonish-type plots, and then turn their character description cards over to a graphics artist to design attractive box covers and small cards that list character traits for each suspect. The instructions are okay at getting the idea across about how to facilitate the mystery. They throw out a few suspects, tell you quickly how to make the party fun by handing out a long list of rules and characters that are somehow involved in the mystery. They could even have you find someone to play the murdered victim, they just lay there all night being dead. That’s no fun. Box kits don’t give any direction on how all the characters should inter-relate with each other, when they should talk, or who should talk first or last—or even who should be the referee to prevent chaos from making the mystery a total flop.
Buying a mystery game in a box does not instruct you on how to act as the suspect, or how to direct the action of a murder mystery event. Nor do they tell you what should you avoid to prevent a murder mystery from falling on its own murder weapon.
I, on the other hand, tailor the unique murder mystery to you and your guests. Whether you are planning an intimate dinner party for four or an entire murder mystery weekend for hundreds, I can help make your killer party the perfect murder mystery event.
The normal way one of our events work is there are four or more suspects (you pick four or more people from your group who you believe would be great at roleplaying/acting the part of a possible killer. You can have one person play this part, or two, or a whole group…even choose the table they’re sitting at for the suspect). The rest of the guests will be detectives (they can even come dressed as their favorite fictional detectives if they want). I play the main detective, Master Detective John Rakestraw, who keeps the mystery party running smoothly and on point.
I will guide you through the pre-party details–help you with invitations, send out the suspects’ assignments, and info. I will help you with more party ideas to enhance the mystery.
You can relax and have fun. I make the mystery as interactive as possible. Even the suspects don’t know which one of them is the killer… that way everyone gets to solve the mystery.
I love the thrill of emailing you fun party tips about the upcoming mystery…to help get the party guests in the playful Sherlock Holmes mood before the party by sending them clues, red herrings, or some brilliant tips on how to be better detectives. You can even send them ideas about what to wear or what kind of prizes they may win if you have contests and the categories they could win those prizes in.
You make sure you have all the guests, all the suspects, the food, the theme all worked out. I’ll have the clues, the murder victim, evidence, and all the red herrings… I’ll take care of the whodunit.
Hosting a murder event shouldn’t be part of the mystery…as you can see there’s a whole lot of stuff to think about when you put together a murder mystery event.
Master Detective John Rakestraw will bring the mystery and help make sure you have a killer time—facilitating the game by keeping track of party timing, clues, suspects, and making sure everyone is having a brilliant time.
Remember—one of you is the killer. You don’t know who, it could even be you! Everyone plays a detective. Trust no one, consider everyone a suspect, and watch your back while asking thorough questions.
We would love to help you plan a murderous night, tailored to the unique interests of you and your party guests. Whether you are planning an intimate dinner party for four or an entire murder mystery weekend for hundreds, we can help make your killer party the perfect murder mystery event.
I would love to have a KILLER time with you and your group.
