Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas, Father Yule, Kris Kringle, Santy, or simply Santa…
Santa Claus, that brilliant mythical figure, with historical origins who, in many Western cultures, brings gifts to the homes of well-behaved, “nice” children on Christmas Eve (24 December) and the early morning hours of Christmas Day (25 December). A modern icon of great commercial worth. He brings the Christmas Holiday to all… no matter what your belief may be or if you have none at all. Santa Claus will bring you a gift. That jolly old Elf is a great symbol for kindness, love, all that make us human and better human beings.
We need Santa!
The best part about Santa is that each one of us can be him to each other… the spirit of that jolly old Elf can, and should, live in each of us all year long.
Letter writing, even emails, to Santa…
“Mail to Santa”, writing letters to Santa Claus has been a tradition for children for many a good years. These letters, and now emails, normally contain a wishlist of toys and assertions of good behavior.
Many postal services around the world allow children to send letters to Santa. These letters may be answered by postal workers and/or outside volunteers. Writing letters to Santa Claus has the educational benefits of promoting literacy, computer literacy, and e-mail literacy. Santa is a great birthright that we need to keep passing on and on to the next group of children. The world needs its magic and wonder… that jolly old Elf adds to it and makes it all the better.
